I have never been a huge fan of weight training, but with some guidance from some great trainers I have come to understand that adding muscle will ultimately increase metabolism. Have you ever heard the saying “use it or lose it”? Well, it plays a huge part in that rapidly decreasing metabolism you are dealing with. This can be a complicated idea to understand so I will try to make it simple and to the point.
Your muscle is your metabolism! Simple enough? The more muscle you have (and this does not mean big bulky muscle, don’t worry ladies) , the higher your metabolism, and the more calories your body requires a day. Lets say you ate 1500 calories a day, every day, and your body required 1500 calories a day. This means that you are neither gaining or losing weight. If you keep the eating habits the same and add five pounds of muscle you will increase your calorie need and ultimately have a calorie deficit at the end of the day, what does that mean? It means you will lose weight! How stupid simple is that?
There is definitely much more to it but that little idea completely changed my understanding of how to increase metabolism. This created a delima for me though, I hate going to the gym and I think it is because of the meat heads that overwhelm it. To get around it I simply got some exercise bands which allowed me to get an equivalent workout at home. If you do happen to pick some up there are plenty of free guides online to different exercises you can do with them, best of all there cheap but work! Again just adding muscle is only part of the solution but it will play a part to increase metabolism.
